Continuing with the project, the vents are all cut out and filed smooth. Feedback

Pic 1 With the hole rough-cut with the Dremel, I used files to finish the openings. Here you can see the flat and half round bastard files I used.
Note: Although dictionary etymologies are virtually nonexistent, a plausible origin can be extracted from historical usage. "Bastard file" in current usage is a file of coarse cut (as opposed to a "finishing" file. However, its technically precise definition is "a file one cut finer than a "coarse file." Files are classed as "coarse," "second cut" and "smooth," from coarsest to finest. Thus, a "bastard file" is a cut in between a "coarse" and a second cut." The word "bastard" functions here in its meaning as "irregular." So, a "bastard file" is a file that is neither "coarse" nor "second cut."
Pic 2 The file (half-round Bastard) is held vertically and the bracing acts as a stop. It goes quickily as the metal is very thin. No, I didn't hold the file like that-- I used two hands-- that is just so I could hold the camera while showing the file position.
Pic 3 I zoomed into pic 2 here. The hood is top is on the sawhorses so you are looking at the underside of the hood. You can see the thin sheet aluminum that makes up the hood sandwitch.

Pic 4 You can see here that the 'hood'-- minus braces is only a thin piece of aluminum.
Pic 5 With the hood flipped back over so the top is .. well .. top .. you can see how clean the openings are after filing.
Pic 6 All of the vents have been completed. It was at this time that I took a deep breath .. of relief.

Pic 7 With the hood stood upright you have a good view of what was cut out.
Pic 8 Same view, but from the undeside. Note that there are nine separate 'pockets' formed by the hood bracing and the hood surface 'skin'. I think the two outside 'pockets' at the center-rear of the hood might be interesting to open up. You would have to form your screen to mimic the shape of the 'bulge' in the hood as it runs through these 'pockets' but I bet it would allow any air coming into the forward vents to exit.
