Pic 1 and Pic 2 Here are the finished hood vents. They came out pretty well I think-- with a couple of caveats.
- Thickness of screen: It has held up quite well but it is after all, the fine screen you see in your wire mesh trash can; easily deforms with pressure-- you can
easily press on the screen and watch it 'pop' up and down. I may experiment with some expanded steel mesh that would be much stronger.
- Attachment method: The method I used-- basically 'spot gluing' in place worked but-- it means that if/when I replace the screen I have to drill out the
glue etc. With this method, the screen has been simply slipped into the hood slot and glued in place. There isn't any tension to draw the screen taught-- which would help to
remedy the problem listed in point 1 above.
- Simplicity: While ornate probably went out at end of the 19th century, I feel that the vents are just a ‘tad’ to plain. They look like they are simply (pun) cut in a stock
hood. Which they are. I think the addition of a simple lip around them would improve the looks immensely.

Pics 3-5 This is the final result. I am mostly pleased with the results other then the caveats I pointed out earlier. Those—will be addressed.
