Pic 1 Let's take a slice through one of the openings-- A-----A
Pic 2 These dimensions are just approximate; but they give a general idea of the measurements we are working with here.
Pic 3 Here's how I attached the screen in the original design. The screen is slid in between the hood skin and the bracing. I used pieces of a green scrubby bad to
wedge the screen up against the hood skin and then drilled holes around the edge and secured everything with a fiberglass paste.

Pic 1 Ok. Here's generally what I am aiming for. The screen is mounted to a sub-structure when is then attached to the hood with screws. I'm going to drop by Hobby
Lobby and see if I can come up with something that might work. The part in red (frame?) might be built up from aluminum. Just how the screen attaches etc. is still up in the air
(design air I guess). Now, if I can find some copper/brass square stock about 3/16" .. and some nice brass screen, I could silver solder it. Donno .. next step is the 'roaming
the aisles' of Lowes, Home Depot and the Hobby Lobby to see what jumps out and attacks me.

| hood vents |
| ambigu0us (08:25 30 May 2008) : Ed,
That is sick!
While I won't be doing it to my car b/c I have no balls, you have big... courage!!!
I think that I would have stopped at the first sign of bending the hood and bought me a new one and called it done! I could probably really benefit from the vents since the car does get hot at the track, and it doesn't rain here (much), I don't think it would be a problem at all.
Way to go man! |

.. an I take that in the 'figurative' representation .. hahaha
I'm begining to think that doing these 'lips' in aluminum is outside my 'skill set'. Metalworking is to some extents, an art .. and it takes time to develop the skills to do it. In the 'olden days' someone would spend years as apprentice, then journyman before becomeing a full-fledged metalworker.
I am thinking then .. that perhaps .. I should be looking at doing this using fiberglass .. |

| ScottieV (04:45 06 Jun 2008) : What you should do is look around your local town, a lot of times you can find some really good metal workers, even better chance if you have a custom bike/car shop nearby. |
